For one day only we will present a range of extra events including eSports sessions, virtual reality games and live performances by Street Science. See full list of activities below.

Activities from the QUT Summer Holiday Program will also run throughout the day including Sphero aqua challenge, Drone coding workshops and Augmented reality drawing.

STREET SCIENCE SHOW: WATER, FLIGHT AND FORCES

Experience a world of water, flight and forces!

Join Street Science for a live science show, exclusively curated for QUT's Summer holiday program. Children will journey through a world of scientific discovery, exploring everything from the gasses in our atmosphere to the forces associated with flight and rocketry.

With Queensland's best science communicators returning home after tours around the world, Street Science's incredible team of scientists will bring science to life.

DRONE CODING WORKSHOP

Are you ready for lift-off?

In this immersive STEM program, participants will learn how drones can be programmed to solve autonomous tasks and explore the physics of multi-rotor flight. This project-based workshop presented by STEMPunks will use micro-drones to undertake a search and rescue mission.

This workshop is also available throughout the holiday program (9 – 18 Jan)

Please note: These sessions are for participants aged 7 – 12 years. All children and young people must be signed in and signed out by a parent/carer.

QUT ESPORTS ROCKET LEAGUE

QUT eSports arena is Australia's first university gaming arena.

These sessions begin with an overview of the emerging opportunities in eSports. Players can participate in three rounds of the popular game Rocket League and sharpen their skills with industry tips and tricks.

Please note: All children and young people must be signed in and signed out by a parent/carer. Parents and carers are invited to attend the overview at the beginning of the session.

FILM YOUR OWN HOLOGRAM

Have you ever wanted to make your own hologram?

In this hands-on activity, BOP Industries will demonstrate the science behind holograms. After learning the basics, you will have the opportunity to dress up and film your own hologram.

Lightweave is an experiential agency focused on Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and New Technology based in Brisbane. Lightweave's CEO Sam Hussey is a QUT Alumnus and was a recent finalist for the Brisbane Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

GET BEHIND THE WHEEL

Are you a good driver, new driver or never driven?

Test your driving response against unknown obstacles and environments in the CARRS-Q portable Driving Simulator, operated by CARRS-Q PhD Scholar, Daniel Vankov.

Enter the world of VR and experience future driving on an automated drive through Brisbane's streets, a research project designed by CARRS-Q PhD Scholar, Michael Gerber.

ABOUT CARRS-Q

The Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q) is a QUT research centre. CARRS-Q studies people’s behaviour on the road to inform and develop strategies and technology to keep all road users safe.

CAUTION
Individuals who have been diagnosed with Epilepsy are not able to participate. This activity may cause dizziness, disorientation or nausea. Children must be 8 years or over and accompanied by an adult. Please check eligibility for children as height restrictions apply.
